Our History

Volleyball at Outrigger Canoe Club has deep roots—originating on our beachfront in 1915 when members created a makeshift sand court. Our junior boys’ program officially emerged in the 1960s–’70s, highlighted by:

  • Outrigger volleyball teams have won 37 national indoor volleyball titles.

  • Four OCC volleyball players have been elected to the International Volleyball Hall of Fame.

  • Eleven Outrigger members have played on U.S. Olympic Volleyball Teams.

  • Dozens of junior players have gone on to lead their college teams to national championships, and earn All America honors.

  • Beach volleyball is still played 365 days a year on the OCC courts.

This century‑plus tradition spans from casual beach beginnings to fierce competitive arenas—producing Olympians, Hall of Famers, and collegiate standouts. Across 37 national indoor titles, our program has upheld Outrigger’s legacy of mentorship, skill development, and championship culture.
