Legacy & History
Volleyball at Outrigger Canoe Club has deep roots—originating on our beachfront in 1915 when members created a makeshift sand court. Our junior boys’ program officially emerged in the 1960s–’70s, highlighted by:

• OCC’s first junior national title in 1980 at the Junior Olympic Championships

• A history of national success: Boys 12, 14, 17, and 18 teams earning top national finishes through 2005 and beyond

• Continued excellence, including multiple Junior National teams through 2024, with Boys 18-1 earning 2nd in Open Division at USAV Nationals

This century‑plus tradition spans from casual beach beginnings to fierce competitive arenas—producing Olympians, Hall of Famers, and collegiate standouts. Across 37 national indoor titles, our program has upheld Outrigger’s legacy of mentorship, skill development, and championship culture.
